Canon 40D

Jun 18, 2008 1:10PM PDT

I have had the Canon 40D for lose to a year and love it. I would like to buy a telephoto lens, a wide angle lens and an external flash. Does anyone have any words of advise on what I should buy?

Take you're pick

Telephoto:
55-250mm IS(around $285)- has received pretty good reviews from owners and sites.

70-300mm IS(around $600)- Is better built, faster focusing, and longer telephoto than the 55-250mm

70-200mm F4 IS(around $1100)- many call it the sharpest zoom lens that Canon has, fastest of three noted with focusing, can accept a teleconverter(stay with the 1.4x if you go this way) and has a constant F4 aperture.

Wide angle:
The two best in that area appear to be the Canon 10-22mm($690) and the Tokina 11-16mm($570).

Flash:
Most people are fine with the cheaper 430EX flash, which you might wait on because their coming out with the 430EX II soon. This should run you about $280.

For the long-term ?

If you'll take photography seriously, go after some prime lenses.

14F2.8L II ( ideal for landscape )
24F1.4L
35F1.4L
50F1.4 ( or F1.2L if you 're willing )
85F1.8 ( or F1.2L II if you're willing )
100F2
135F2L
200F2.8L ( or F2L if you're willing )

I'd suggest that you purchase them all at once. One at a time, please.

Otherwise, these are great zoom lenses.

16-35F2.8L II
24-70F2.8L
70-200F2.8L ( without IS )regard less flare and ghosting effects but trade off with a few stop-shutter speed.

External flash 580EX II, more guide-numbers for the longer distance shooting, and slave-master alternative add-on.

Just provide some list for you to try them. Good luck.
