Canon 1000D and lens

Dec 25, 2009 10:18AM PST

The low-end entry level CANON 1000D comes with a kit lens EFS18-55. If I exchange the kit lens for a mid-zoom lens, e.g. EFS18-200, [or an equivalent Sigma or Tamron]. I realize that the lens costs more then the camera. Is it a wise move ? Are3 they a good "mix" ? I am used to using the CANON S2IS and the Panasonic Lumix TZ3 for their zoom power and am thinking of upgrading to a DSLR.... [1st choice CANON. The SONY 330 Alpha costs about the same and is a close 2nd choice for its in-camera IS. ]

Thanks.

If you care most about image quality then keep the kit lens, but if you care most about convenience then buy the 18-200.

I should add

The difference between a kit lens and a superzoom lens is slight. Also, the superzoom lens is much more expensive than another lens, besides the kit lens(say the 55-250mm) that perform better.
