Cannot upgrade Nokia software

Oct 10, 2005 8:46AM PDT

XP SP2, Dell Dimension 4600.
Probably the sort of thing that turns up here time and time again, but I have been trying to upgrade my Nokia phone software. The thing is, it won't install even though I have (a) uninstalled the previous version from the Start Menu, (b) physically removed directories, etc. I have had to try these nethods because, even though the Nokia software said it would automatically remove the old version first, it doesn't! So I am now at the stage where the installation says that it cannot proceed because it has detected an older version which must be removed by the user, even though the only remnant is the listing in "Add and Remove Programs", i.e. there is nothing else Nokia related on the hard disk!
