Cannot set Windows Media Player as Default player for MP3

Have set Windows media player as the default player for mp3 files various ways, but every time I try to open an mp3 file, the "Open With" dialog box opens. I select "Always use the selected program to open this type of file" and it still occurs. I had Nero Media Player installed, but have removed it and still have the same problem. Have also removed and reinstalled Windows media player yet the problem continues. Any suggestions??

Then....

In reply to: WMP as default for MP3 still not working

...open Windows Explorer (e.g. open My Computer) >Tools>Folder Options>File Types. Associate (i.e. Action=Open) MP3 files with WMP. It may help to configure other players(e.g. Real Player,(if you have them), not to play MP3s,or even delete them, then after you have successfully set WMP as the default player for MP3s, you can again configure the others to play MP3s (but now not as default).

Did you have the option to set WMP as the default player for MP3 during installation ?

I had the Nero Media Player & removed it in Add/Remove BUT

In reply to: Then....

In the folder Ahead, it was still there and in other places so you need to search file & Folders also. Then, you have to clean out the registry(issues) with CCleaner or EasyClean.

Use Set Program Access and Defaults, custom

In reply to: I had the Nero Media Player & removed it in Add/Remove BUT

My email is AOL, not Outlook Express, I have Internet Explorer as browser and I have a choice to use Quicktime or Windows Media Player. I select the one I use and deselect Outlook & Quicktime.

Thanks for the suggestions. I tried them still didn't help. While trying to customize some folders, I got an idea.
>Open Control Panel,>Folder Options,>File Types,> Mp3 extension,>>Details about MP3 extension,>>Advanced,>>Open,>>set Default,>Apply,>ok

After messing with all that it work the way i wanted it to

Thanks again
