cannot select "Virtual Private Netowrk Connection" option

1. I am able to select "Connect to the network at my workplace" but the next option :
2. Virtual Private Network COnnection is grayed out. I cannot choose it. I am running XP SP2. I did do a system restore 2 days ago and found that the shortcut point to my vpn def was invalid and the vpn def. was gone. SO I am trying to define it again.
