Cannot run update for Illustrator CS2

Mar 4, 2006 1:29AM PST

Windows XP Pro

I installed the CS2 Creative Suite then downloaded and ran all of the programs'updates. The Illustrator CS2 update failed with the following message.

"Unable to update AIRes.dll. The file on your system does not match the original Illustrator 12.0 file expected and it cannot be deleted."

I have no idea what to do.

Further information that may help solve this:
-Before installin the CS2 Suite I already had Illustrator 8 and 9 and CS2 installed before I purchased the Suite. The installation made me uninstall Illustrator CS2 before proceeding with the Suite install. I did that.

-Illustrator 8 and 9 are still installed.

So I wonder if this has anything to do with it.

Just adding.

A customer ran into similar but not same issue. They had installed a copy they downloaded from a P2P app. We haven't been able to get the purchased version to install. It looks like we'll wipe the OS and start over.

The reason I wonder if this is your issue is you wrote "Before installin the CS2 Suite I already had Illustrator 8 and 9 and CS2 installed before I purchased the Suite."

I thought that Adobe was there all the time.
After all, Adobe is the leading software company in the world.
Try to contact Adobe now!
Just go to their live help.
Having different versions has no bearing on this problem.
Just have your serial number handy to verify.

Heheheee......I love it!

Well anyways, I love seeing certain folks exposing their sins. heheee. I know, I know;... that is a sadistic trait, of some sort.
I am a member of Adobe systems and Adobes resource Center. Many Adobe questions can be easily answered, with a forum topic search At Adobes' websites. Of course this may also require a product code. I cannot be sure, because when I install Adobe software and plug-ins; I immediately and automatically register them at install point.
My issue is minor and I still have no solid answer.
Illustrastor loves to crash on me, when I have too many projects(vector images) open at once. Six or so and program just exits to desktop. No error messages, no nothing. P4 2.3 gig and 1 gig ram, should be quite sufficient. PF: 2560mb

AISC2 version. Still learning this program also.
Also tackling game moding and animation now, so I am swamped with studying up on all things graphic.

PS7.0
AISC2
Gmax(several plug-ins)
Bryce5.5
Blender2.40
UVMapper Classic..... could go on...
Many many more programs and apps, nestled down on my HDD's.

Making Texture packs
Mar 17, 2006 5:01PM PST

Zipping up a few products for DAZ productions, on-line store. maybe earn a portion of my investments back.
You have to be really good with 3D Graphics, to make even a small profit. I am not that great at it.... yet.
Have a few products on-line at Turbo Squid.com. Texture Packs for 3D meshes/models. No sales. hahaa.
Still fun to do and upload, even if I never make a cent.
Helping design game content for Simmars project. Using mostly free stuff for a free game modd.
Playing games toooo much.
writing, always writing.
working overtime at the newspaper this whole year. They closed down a nearby plant and moved the entire operation into our site! No new manpower though. Now we publish the Freemont newspaper as well as our own. 48 hour work weeks are an every week occurrance.
*sorry to be off the thread topic*
I hang out at Simtropolis forums alot. Turbo Squid is the place for mesh modelers, to hang their hat. I am at TS every day, at least once. Known as Frendovalya there.

I am using the And and But words an awful lot.
I should try to avoid these words:
and, but, too, also and I.

Solution
Mar 17, 2006 1:35AM PST

FYI. Adobe's solution was to uninstall AI 8, AI 9 and AI CS2. Then install AI CS2. All is fine now. Apparently had something to do with shared dll files.
