by Grif Thomas Forum moderator / March 4, 2007 3:46 AM PST

Downloaded files can be faulty and a new download can sometimes fix the issue.

Hope this helps.

choochoojohn; Also you didn't mention;
What type of service are u using? Dial-Up? DSL? Broadband?
Did you Take Out or disable any other AV you might have had on machine already before you tried to install?
May I suggest:
(1)Create a folder on your desktop and mark it AVG
(2)When ask by AVG to RUN SAVE: CLICK SAVE; DOWNLOAD IT TO THE DESKTOP FOLDER
(3) Go Off-Line
(4) Take out any other AV you have in the Control Panel Add/Remove programs
(5) Reboot and immediately install AVG from your folder
Like I said ... Just a suggestion

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll give it a try.
I'm using Windows XP with AOL dial up trying to download AVG 7.5 from CNET download site. I had the earlier version and received notice of update and when I tried, that's when trouble started.

Try this... has worked for me in the past!

First download a fresh file direct from Grisoft who is the maker of the software... the author is always the best and preferred source.

Then uninstall the present version and remove all remnants remaining by going to Program files and deleting them. If you are familiar and comfortable in the registry find and delete any remnants there as well. Do be careful in the registry. In all probability the new install will be successful without the registry cleaning. However it is important to clean the left over remnants from Program files as previously mentioned. These leftovers containing bits and pieces of a previous version settings and can corrupt the new install... hence the reason to clean them out. Wink

Hope this works for you. AVG has worked well many years for me.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
