General discussion

Cannot paste pre-composed text into message body

Feb 18, 2011 1:36PM PST

Hi -

First, thank you for the update on existing bugs. Most forums don't do this...

OK. I use K-Meleon 1.5.4 in W2K Pro SP4 Rollup 1 with IE6 SP1 as (Ir eally wish this would show acursor here!!!!! Sad ) a backup with the Sleipnir 2.9.6 shell.

However, using K_meleon this forum won't let me paste in this box. It doesn't say anything, but the puzzled stare is enough. But if I change to IE6/Sleipnir, I can paste to my heart's content.

Is this a bug, or something I can fix in K-meleon? (No I won't stop using it!)

Gordon.

Seems to work here...

I am not a K-Meleon user myself, but I did install version 1.5.4 under Windows XP (I do not have Windows 2000 installed) for testing purposes. The cursor did not appear during login, but did appear in the Subject and Body fields within the forums, and I was able to paste text successfully. Given that and the forums using standard text fields/text areas without Javascript that would interfere with the copy-and-paste functionality, it is likely an issue with your installation of K-Meleon. Given that, I'd re-post in the Browsers forum as it is not a forum-specific issue and your post will receive more attention in a higher-traffic forum.

Regards,
John

It's a bug.

Try this. Click the reply button. If you tab to the Message body and don't seee the cursor the content will not paste.

WORKAROUND until it's fixed. Click reply two more times. Try again.

It's fixed????
Feb 19, 2011 7:50AM PST

Hi John and Bob -

Thank you for your prompt attention to this bug report.

First, the "bug" seems to have disappeared???? Which seems to lend credence to Bob's workaround theory.

OTOH, clicking "reply" on this thread opened a drop-down extension to Bob's post, with the entire thread visible. The thread where I had the problem was "Community poll > Why are computers still so difficult to use?" and I replied to Lee's original post which gave me a page with no thread visible and only the reply box. I wasn't alarmed, as this is usual on some forums. I did note that the RC context menu in the message box had Undo, Redo and Paste all greyed out, leaving Select All, Autofill Forms and Anonymous Fill for use. The odd thing (with hindsight) is that when I changed to Sleipnir, the same thing happened -- new page with reply box -- except that I could paste into the box. Still no cursor though.

And, as mentioned in my first post, that had no cursor either!

I will continue to try for reproduction of this bug, but I think it may just have been one of those things.

Gordon.

Comes and goes. My last post experienced it so it's still there.
