Cannot open Works 8 document

by gk200852 / March 2, 2007 10:16 AM PST

I made a new document in Works 8 and saved it to my documents. When I go to open it in documents it starts to 'download' it, but then never opens, then I need to do Control / Alt / Delete because it freezes. I'm using a new Acer laptop with Window Vista Home Premium, and I just installed a new MS Works 8 disk. I'm not a total newbie, but this does upset me because I hate to reboot all the time.

Thanks, I'll try that when I get home in a few hours. I was thinking about that after I posted. My old word processor didn't have a history option. I just went from a 6 year old Windows ME desktop to a new Acer laptop with all the new stuff. It's great to have forums like this with great people like you on them.

The one I wanted to open was in the Works history, and did open, THANKS. There were 4 items there, and 2 would not open. The message said the file may have been moved or deleted. They were also in my documents, and would not open. LESSON LEARNED:Do NOT move Works items to Documents. I hope the History in Works is unlimited as to how many items it will hold. Thanks again! I'm sure I'll be back with more questions soon.

I lost files in Works and I don't know why.

I just found this thread and I needed to find it a long time ago. I had a lot of documents in the History in Works. It seems that for some reason they are no longer available. I am getting the same message as the above poster. I only have 2 new items in the History and now, again, one is not available. Just a few minutes ago I downloaded and update to works 8.

I lost all 220 Christmas card addresses, inventory lists and many other things.

This is not a new thing, it has happened before.

Is there a trick to this Works program or do I need something else to go along with it? I am getting really aggravated that I am losing these files.
I am using XP Media Center Edition..IE6.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
