cannot open http urals in xp pro

by mutton777 / February 15, 2008 11:28 PM PST

Hi, I will try to explain what is wrong. every week I receive a newsletter with job offers, at the end of each job there is a link to
go to the website for more info.... normally the link is in blue, and I just click it, and proceed to the website.
however, on the last two occasions the link is in normal text(white) and
I cant open the website, all settings are at default on my pc.
any help would be welcome, thanks Mike.

Thanks Bob, tried eml as suggested, no result. however, your reply
was sent to my e.mail address, (live hotmail) and the link to xp forum
was there in blue.... and worked, so I am beginning to suspect the
web page that the job offers came from, although it has been fine in the past. I only use hotmail, and my options are set at windows live mail, it does seem strange it has only happened after I updated from IE6 to IE7.

It might be...

that whoever writes the emails has forgotten to make that web site into a link. In many applications it is not automatic. meaning when they prepare an email and type "", it is not automatically converted into a link. The author has to go to Insert > Link, and include the same words as a link, or add http:// , etc.

So it could be an error with the source.

Associations. The discussion was so you could benefit from not only the link to the association fixes but find out that other software can interfere.

Please try again.

That's easy to check. Just find any other PC to access your hotmail account. Does it work there?

I followed link to Doug Knox web page and ran htm/html file. merged file with the registry. still not giving me url addresses on my
web page, I will send page to another computer as suggested, and see if they find the same... once again many thanks everybody for your help.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
