Question

Cannot open after W10 update

Apr 16, 2017 11:04PM PDT

Laptop worked normally on original W10 download. When offered W10 update did so and on post update restart could not get beyond password entry. Password used regularly for years and after inserting PW the screen reverted to the saver again and I went through the various ' MS ' solutions without success. Now 4 days later am still locked out of my laptop. Any suggestions?

Get your Windows 10 disk (or make one, it's a free download from Microsoft), boot from and see which of the repair options work.

One thing is certain: after a full reinstall it will work again, unless there happens to be a hardware issue. But maybe less destructive things work also.

This happened to me.

It was something odd so I logged into my spare admin account then reset the password in my local account (I don't use email logins) and then logged out of my spare admin account then into my usual account.

Worked for me. Having a spare admin account makes these problems trivial. It's like having backups. That is, so many only learn this the painful way.
