Brent,

Try booting into safe mode (procedures depend on the OS). Apparently something is wrong with either the new card or the setup is done improperly. In Safe Mode, go to Device Manager and see if there are any particulars there. If necessary, delete the card and let Windows reinstall it (not much an go wrong if you have the correct drivers for your OS).
If all else fails, return the new video card and try another. And are you sure the original problem had to do with the video card? Or might there be some underlying cause for that problems and your new ones?

Having files on a hard disk, and not having a backup means losing them now and then. It's not fair to complain about that, in my opinion.
If you have a CD-burner, you can use a Knoppix CD (find information with the search function on this forum) to save your data before formatting. But - of course - that requires a working video to do it, so it seems to be kind of a catch 22.

Hope this helps.

Thanks everyone for your responses. I tried all without succes so i ened up installing xp on a 2nd partition that i normally use to keep large setup filed. When i got to that i realized that i could u se the backup utility in xp to get the data off the pwd protectd account and restore it to another part of the drive. After that i just reinstalled xp but i have to format the partition very soon cuz the accout i cannot access still contains all my files and as a result is taking up a lot of space. But needless to say i have learned my lesson "kess" i will always continuously back up my data in the event something like this happenes again. Thanks so much again everyone and god bless.
