Question

Cannot log on to Facebook, or send yahoo email attachments?

Dec 15, 2012 3:56AM PST

I cannot log on to Facebook at all. It says the server is too slow to respond, and it has been that way for three days now. I thought it was just Facebook, but now I cannot send attachments, (photos) from my yahoo email. When the page or attachment is loading, the load symbol is not green its grey. ( I dont know what else to call it..Im sorry) I can get on to m.facebook.com however. I have run scans, I have tried using IE and Google Chrome instead of my usual Mozilla Firefox. Its the same results, I have updated my Adobe Flash Player, all Windows updates have been installed, I have run defrag, and spybot scan, and I keep Avast on at all times. What could be the issue? I am not a whiz at computers, so I apologize.

It could be any number of things. You didn't mention anything about your system, hardware, OS internet hook up. First blush it sounds as if it could be a malware infestation, Spybot or Avast, if they are the freebies won't likely cut it. Try this, download Malwarebytes, boot into Safe Mode With Networking, scan with MWB, when the scan is complete click Show Results, if malware shows on the list, attempt removal. If you can't download MWB, go to clean computer, download MWB send to flash drive or CD, boot sick system to Safe Mode With Networking upload MWB from FD or CD and follow the aforementioned procedure, see if that is the problem. A little more information might also help since this is just a guess, however, I've seen bugs create just the kinds of issues that you cite.

Cannot log on to facebook or send attachmentsfrom yahoo emai
Dec 15, 2012 11:53AM PST

I ran Malwarebytes last night, but did so again under your suggestion. It did not detect anything. I have a Toshiba Satellite L753 laptop with Windows 7. I thought maybe it was my router, but I used the laptop at another location, and I still have the issue. The strange thing was I logged on to Facebook just a short while ago, and had no issues, until I used Facebook for about 30 minutes or so, and when I went to reply to a message, the same message about the server popped up, and I havent been able to log on since ( same message). I can use yahoo email, but send no attachments as of yet either. I am not computer savvy at all, so this has me completely baffled.

Rollback
Dec 16, 2012 6:10AM PST

Have you tried doing a rollback? Rolling back to an earlier time. You didn't mention if you had tried doing that. The other thing, assuming that you are using a standard wireless network, router, etc. have you tried it on a hardwire hook up? That would be something to try at your location to see if the same problem arises. I'd do a rollback and see if that has an effect.
