Mar 25, 2012 2:00PM PDT

I have a Dell XPS 400 desktop and i am trying to reinstall windows xp, it boots up from the dvd and starts the process but stops at "setup is starting windows"?? I tried new memory but it still does the thing??

Anybody have any ideas what could cause this??

I find I can't install XP anymore. Why?

The newer machines demand I install XP SP2 or XP SP3 CD's today. And then I might need to toggle the SATA mode in the BIOS but XP is no more. It won't install for me either.

What do you mean by "new memory"?

Has your HD been wiped clean or been formatted ext., in order to accept the install and be sure its going to the "C" or main partition. I take it you're using the Dell discs and these are in good shape? Why, are you re-installing in the 1st place?
