cannot install/run any new progs/apps

Hi all, I am running a laptop "advent" with vista, somehow it has decided it wont run anything i have downloaded e.g. avg8, even when i try to uninstall it comes up with the following:Installer initialization failed due to following error:
Error: @AvgErrorCode_0x0253 %FILE% = "C:\Program Files\AVG\AVG8"

This isnt the only error, some apps run ok others dont, i restored to a previous time,scanned with "windows care" which shows no baddies!!
Any ideas/ help would be appreciated many thanks.

When did this start happening? What were you doing? Have you tried system restore?

about 24 hours ago, system slowed up and then refused to start apps, i have restored, to an earlier time but to no avail?

In England bought AVG 8.0 for vista premium on HP DV6214 laptop.
Have tower on XP Pro LAN cable connected to Belkin N1 Mimo DSL Wireless Router.Wireless HP totally locked down on AVG 8.O/then had to uninstall AVG 8.0 then put same license key onto second tower to save money.AVG 8.0 is fantastic on Towers,however,replaced AVG 8.0 on HP DV6214 with Kaspersky 7.0 works perfect on laptop.
Hope this does help a little.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
