CANNOT INSTALL ADOBE READER 9.3

My System Information:
Windows XP Professional 5.1 Service Pack 3 (Build 2600)

When choosing an Operating System from Adobe to download the Reader I have chosen: Windows 2000 SP4 (didn't work); Windows Server 2003 (didn't work); Windows Server 2004 (didn't work). Does anyone know how I can reinstall Adobe Reader 9.3. I even tried a lower version and it did not work. I originally uninstalled because none of my pdf files were being read. Adobe stopped working.
Thanks

"I originally uninstalled because none of my pdf files were being read."

This sounds like the old ACR*.TMP file issue. The reader stops working after the 65,536 temp file is created. And installing new or old versions does not fix this.

Have you heard of this?

If Bob's tip doesn't work ...

tell more on "can't install" and "doesn't work". Or install another reader immediately (for example that from foxitsoftware).
