Still can't gain access to the hotmail account after a second reset attempt through customer support, however the Sony guys were incredibly helpful in recovering my PSN account and assigning it to an email I regularly use.
I'll leave this question up though in case someone can help, I may as well try and deactivate the account if I can.
Hi everyone, first post here and the problem is entirely my fault.
Anyway, I foolishly linked my PSN account to a hotmail account I rarely use, and I forgot the actual password to it as I have changed it a few times. Anyway, I also managed to forget my new PSN password and the password reset request got sent to that hotmail account. I don't have any linked email accounts and as a super paranoid security measure, I lied on the answer to my security question and possibly my personal details, the only things I have to identify the account really are previous passwords and that the account used to be linked to another one.
I've tried the customer support reset but they've already denied it once and I can't seem to post anything on the live support center, it just sends me round in circles and I end up back on the password reset page. So now I can't get on my PSN (which I have purchased games on!) or the hotmail account.
