Cannot find server message

Mar 14, 2004 5:31PM PST

My computer is hp pavilion mx70. The os is windows xp home edition. My browser is internet explorer. The problem is that I frequently get the message "cannot find server, The page cannot be displayed. when trying to open my email messages and just going from one website to another. Clicking the refresh button doesn't work. So I have been disconnecting and reconnecting to the internet which temporarily resolves the problem but shortly afterwards the same thing occurs again. Along with the message there is a statement about changing browser setting. I'm not sure of how to do this and I don't know what setting I should change it to.

1. The HP MX70 is a 17" CRT Monitor. Not a computer.

2. No mention about your ISP (how you connect to the internet.) You should call them.

You're right Bob. It is my monitor model. My computer is HP 304W. I have dial-up internet access but this problem just recently started occurring and I've been with my ISP for about 2 years. Also I have another computer with OS ME and I don't experience the problem when I'm on that computer. It's also dial-up and same ISP.

The article "Troubleshooting Browsing Error Messages in Microsoft Internet Explorer" describes the steps you can use to troubleshoot the following error messages:

a. The Page Cannot Be Displayed.

b. Internet Explorer cannot open the Internet site Web address. A connection with the server could not be established.

c. The page you are looking for is currently unavailable. The Web site might be experiencing technical difficulties, or you may need to adjust your browser settings.

d. Cannot find server or DNS Error.

e. An internal error occurred in Windows Internet extensions.

Note: If you don't find anything relevant, step-back to the main page titled, "Internet Explorer Support Center" and start on another item.
