Cannot Download Pics From GE W 1000

For some reason it is as though my laptop (and my wife's as well) doesn't recognize the camera on the "My Computer" screen. Batteries good, camera is on. USB plugged in... (help)

Put the camera in "play-back" mode.
That is the mode you use when viewing photos on the camera LCD screen
Make sure the camera is turned on.
Then plug-in the USB cable.

Another way is the remove the SD card from the camera and put it in the SD card reader on the laptop.
