Netscape 7.2 email problem. I'M IN DESPERATE NEED OF HELP!
Mar 12, 2011 4:04AM PST

I know I'm in the wrong place so forgive me, but I don't really know where to get in the "right" place either. Anyhow, at one time Mark I saw you had answered issues about Netscape 7.2. I am very desperate here! Today when I got on my computer and clicked on my desktop icon to go to Netscape mail, it acts like I've never had a Netscape email account and wants me to start all over again with a new account setup!? It worked fine last night!? However yesterday I did do a Java update, I don't know if that caused a problem for when I restarted this morning? Can someone help here? I have a lot of VERY IMPORTANT emails in there I need to access. If it matters I am on Windows XP.

http://download.cnet.com/Netscape/3000-2356_4-10310559.html seems to show this is a 7 year old browser, not an e-mail program. But from http://www.math.hawaii.edu/~dale/instructions/Netscape_email_setup.html I get the impression that it's an e-mail program also. Maybe there are 2 programs, both called "Netscape"?

But, indeed, this is the wrong forum and the wrong post inside this forum. So better start a new discussion on our Computer Help forum http://forums.cnet.com/computer-help-forum.

All I can say is, that you only risk to lose those mails that aren't on the last backup of your mail archive. If you have a LOT of VERY IMPORTANT mails surely you have a recent backup, don't you?
And, luckily, in most e-mail programs, creating accounts and modifying their settings is independent of managing your mail archive. So, even if you have to recreate your account, your mails are still safely on your hard disk. Did you already search for them? They should still be on the exact same place as your backup always read them from.

It's very unlikely this has anything to do with the Java update you did. A program like Netscape doesn't use Java, I think (but I'm not really sure about that).

Netscape 7.2 email problem...
Mar 12, 2011 7:26AM PST

Yes, Netscape 7.2 is email program as well, Netscape use to be what I would call a suite, it was a browser, web development composer and email program rolled into one, I really liked it, the last "update" for the email part was called 7.2, the browser part was updated at times after that, I think the last update on that was 9. Then they quit updating and supporting it. I like the ease of use of it and am just use to it and keep using it, but suddenly today it gave me a problem, I do not have a clue where to begin to look for the email file. I had seen where MarkFlax in the past had answered questions about Netscape and seemed to be quite knowledgeable about it so I thought I would try to reply to a post he had hoping he would see it and hopefully respond to my "plea" for help. I did do as you say and start a new discussion however, but have had no replies yet. If you might know of someone else who might be knowledgeable about Netscape I would appreciate you forwarding it to them. I guess maybe I need to learn how to switch it all over to something like seamonkey I guess from what I have seen from others, but I don't have a clue how to do that either and living in a small town no one around here is any help either to get professional help locally. Thanks... Allen
