CANNOT DOWNLOAD

Nov 5, 2010 9:02AM PDT

My pc wont let me download anything. I tried turning off Panda and Microsoft Security Essentials and i get a dialogue box "Your security settings wont allow you to download this file" Or something similiar to that. Where do i begin to look? My first thought of course is some kind of virus but i scan and clean and defrag and empty my browser cache on a regular basis. And i have Panda as my running defense and Malware Anti and Microsoft Security (i dont run them simultaneously) Essentials

A Couple Of Suggestions..

Unfortunately, you haven't told us which operating system you have installed, but the procedures below should help:

1. Open the Control Panel, double click on "Internet Options", then click on the "Security" tab. When that opens make sure the "Internet" icon (the World globe) is highlighted, then click on the "Custom Level" button and use the drop down arrow to "reset" the security to "medium" or "medium-high", then click on the "Reset" button. Once that's done, in the same section, scroll to the "Downloads" section and make sure the "File" section is set to "Enable". Under Miscellaneous category, select Prompt (recommended) for the option "Launching applications and unsafe files"
- Under Miscellaneous category, select Prompt (recommended) for the option "Launching programs and files in an IFRAME"Now click on OK, Apply, OK, etc.

2. On a separate computer, download the free Firefox browser from the link below, copy it to a CD or flash drive, then transfer it to your computer and install the browser.. You should be able to download files using the new browser.

Of course, when you discuss "Download anything", if you actually mean download attachments in your email, then there may be a different issue. If that's the case here, then open you Windows Mail, click on "Tools", then "Options" (In the new Windows Live Mail, it's Tools - Safety Options - Security), then untick the box "Do not allow attachments to be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus."

Hope this helps.
