We suggest a setup of the router in a specific way. You didn't share so I suggest you read http://forums.cnet.com/5208-7589_102-0.html?forumID=62&threadID=264135&messageID=2584349
Further down that discussion you find a Vista specific item.
In closing I have encountered 2 recurring self inflicted issues.
1. The button that turns on the wifi is "off."
2. The owner installed a FIREWALL and set it to maximum protection.

Hi. I don't have much experience with computers, but I recently purchased (last week) a desktop: Dell Inspiron 531, AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 5000+ with 2 gigs of RAM, Vista Home PRemium and a Broadcom 802.11g network adapter. I am running a network in the house with a Linksys WRT54G router. My laptop (Dell Inspiron 2200, Celeron 1.8ghz) connects fine, as does my brother-in-laws laptop (not sure of all specifics but it runs Vista Home Premium, a Broadcom network card and is an AMD Athlon). My new desktop will not even detect a wireless network, even if I set up the computer right next to the router.
Is there something that I need to switch on? I am really frustrated with this and cannot seem to find the answer I need online. Maybe I'm not looking for the right thing?
Thanks.
