Question

Cannot delete song from ipod touch with manual management

Oct 12, 2014 12:53PM PDT

Hi all,

I manage my device content manually on iTunes, and I am trying to delete enough songs from my ipod touch to download the new iOS. I clicked "on this device" in iTunes and deleted the songs I didn't want, but they are still on my device. I've restarted the device and restarted iTunes. When I had unplugged the device and plugged it back in, under "on this device" it does not show the song I tried to delete, but they are still on my device. Any help would be greatly appreciated. iPod touch, iOS 7.1.2

My iPod Touch current has 2580 songs on it, and I have it set where it only displays music downloaded to the actual device and not iCloud. However in iTunes under On This iPod, it says I only have 1600 songs (which is what I want to be true).

Are you doing something other than what most do?

What is this "manual" method you speak of? That is I have for years set the playlists I want in iTunes and sync. You seem to be trying something odd.

Really? Manual management is what you use if you don't want your content directly synced to your library. In my case I have 2 libraries on 2 laptops and don't want all that music on my new smaller capacity laptop.

I'm afraid you didn't really explain what manual management is.

I couldn't find this feature.

How about a web page detailing how to do this?

I have for years used the usual app and sync but if you want to try something new, be sure to get those that created it to document and support it.

Answer
That is not the way to remove tracks from the iOS device
Oct 12, 2014 10:04PM PDT

Instead, remove the tracks from the playlist(s) that are transferred to the iOS device during a sync.

Once you have done that, Sync and the tracks you want to remove, are removed.
