Cannot create new message/access address book in OE 2000

by ekunitz / April 22, 2004 7:46 AM PDT

Hello! This problem just jumped out of nowhere. Everytime I open OE I get an error stating that my adress may not be installed properly, therefore it is unable to open. Then, I try to create a new message, I get another error message stating, "There was an error opening this message. An error has occured.". Help! Is there any way I can fix this up without having to reinstall? Oops, my OS is Win ME.

Providing you have no emails you want to keep:

Open O/E
Tools/Options/Maintainance/StoreFolder
Write down the Store folder path
Close O/E

Navigate to the store folder via 'Windows'
Delete:
Inbox.dbx
DeletedItems.dbx
Outbox.dbx
Drafts.dbx

Reopen O/Express

If that doesn't work you will need to reinstall, but it's not big deal (it only installs what you need)

Jethro,

Good trick. But I'm afraid it won't work with the Addess Book, without losing all information in it. Unless it's on a backup, of course.

Do you know if an empty address book is created if it is missing? Would be nice, in this case.

Kees

What is OE 2000?

I will share that a very similar error message can be reproduced if one installs windows ME "over the top" in hopes of fixing something. You didn't share if this was the case. If so, and we are talking about Internet Explorer and Outlook Express, the usual fix has been to update IE/OE to the version that you used to have prior to the "over the top" install.

Best of luck,

Bob

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
