Question

Cannot Connect to Internet: Default Gateway Cannot Be Found

Sep 15, 2017 7:10AM PDT

A few weeks ago the power went out during a storm and when everything went down we started having internet issues. It seems whenever a computer goes to sleep or turns on it cannot connect to the internet. While you're connected and surfing everything works fine but as soon as the computer sleeps it comes back up with the little warning over the wi-fi connection.
It says connected with no internet. I've tried ipconfig and it looks like everything is still talking and i went into the router and none of the settings reset during the outage. I'm at a loss here. I am either told by the troubleshooter that there is a DNS error or that the default gateway is not available. Which leads me to think this is a modem issue? Are there any ways to test this?

Due to recent storms

A lot of carriers and ISPs may be in disarray. Call this in before you begin repairing what may be all good on your end.

Do you need to enter a pasword for ISP connection?

You are cabled and not using an xfinity "hotspot"?
I think you problem is router related and the outage may have changed it's security settings and you need to make those match the computers again.

Given that the DNS errors began appearing upon the computer coming out of Sleep mode after you had a power outage during a storm, there is a good chance that the sudden shutdown of your modem and computer is related to these errors. One possibility is, a power surge occurred and damaged the modem or even the BIOS of your computer. You would want to have the modem tested and the computer's BIOS settings verified. Also, verify your Windows network settings are correct, too.

Answer
Ping Default gateway and DNS server

I would like to some more details:
Run the ipconfig /all see what the default gateway is.
Once done ping the default gateway and see if it works.
Check the DNS servers and see if you can ping those too.
