Question

Cannot changed new cloned ssd to C drive.

Sep 6, 2014 5:34AM PDT

Hey I just cloned my old ssd because it was out of space to a bigger one and now I can't seem to figure out how to switch the c drive letter from the old ssd to the new one. I've worked with disk management and the c drive does not have a paging file on it so I don't know what to do. I also have a Linux partition on my data hard drive with grub on it and it is set up to dual boot. I don't know if that helps or not.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
-Thanks

Answer
Clone again?
Sep 6, 2014 7:55AM PDT

I've cloned such and the big glitches I ran into are as follows.

1. Cloned but instead of shutting down I rebooted. Windows marked it unbootable. Do again.

2. Cloned but tried to avoid moving SATA cables around. So clone again, shutdown and remove the old drive and pop the new clone drive into the new position. Leave the old drive out for a few boots.

It will suggest to check the situation set the BIOS to boot from whichever drive you want, boot up and open a command prompt. Type in set and hit Enter and look for the value of SystemDrive. It should be C:.
