Does the CD drive work at all?
Does boot work with the XP Pro Setup CD? You can try that and always cancel out before any changes are made.
Sometimes CDs fail, but some have found that copying the data from the CD to a new CD might work.
Can you see this XP Pro's Safe Mode options?
I have an ASUS netbook (1005HA) with 160 gb HD, divided into C and D drives.
On the C drive I have the original Windows XP Home that came with the machine.
On the D drive I installed XP pro and much other software, all of which worked fine for about two years.
Suddenly, when I boot it, the XP Pro gets into a loop, where it looks as if it tries to start Windows, but then returns to the OS choice (XP pro or XP home). I tried to boot from a CD (to use Hiren's disk) but it won't boot from it, even when I set the BIOS to have the CD drive as the first boot device.
I would hate to have to run Partitionmagic and lose all the software from the D drive (XP pro).
Why can't I boot from a CD drive? Have others seen this kind of behavior?
The C drive with its XP home works fine, as far as I can tell.
Thanks for your help--
