CANNOT BOOT WINDOWS XP FROM XP CD

Cannot get my windows XP to boot up--------without the disc it will only go so far as to do a disk scan and then it goes nowhere-------same is true with using the XP operating disk-------------have XP home edition 2000+ with 676 mb of ram and 3 hard drives. Windows XP is on my D drive and won't boot up. Am using windows 98 to correspond with you. PLEASE HELP

As per your subject title, this is as it should be. XP (the OS) is not bootable from CD, but the installer and Recovery Console is.

As to XP on your hard disk, that may be another story. Dual boot machines tend to lose the boot record and your skill with the RECOVERY CONSOLE may be required.

In addition to Davids suggestion, I would try hitting F8 during boot up and:

1) choose the Last Known Good Configuration or

2) choose safe mode and do a system restore to when it last worked.
