cannot boot from cd

by dr.gj / June 5, 2008 12:01 PM PDT

my tecra M2V-S330 was recently repaired and the shop did not install many toshiba utilities. this is causing several problems and one is i cannot boot from cd.

i have tried the F2, F12 and and "0" and "C" keys at POWER-UP. nothing happens with F2 or F12 or 0, (i.e., it keeps booting from hard disk)....but with C the, it stops booting.

also, i have not been able to get to the bios setup or any toshiba console/help

help...thanks

You either have the wrong key or that keyboard is defective. The other issue I run into is the CD/DVD drive has lost it's boot capability. We slide in a new drive to fix that. Some owners won't do that so we have to want for them to season a little longer.

keyboard /cd drive
by dr.gj / June 6, 2008 12:20 AM PDT

bob- worked with tech support and we tested several function keys with applications like explorer. the keyboard seems to be working fine as far as the generic keys go, i.e, F1 works with explorer, F9 works with excel.

can you expand on the second point? the cd/dvd works fine for loading software, playing music/movies etc...

so...if it has lost boot capability, how do i regain that? not sure if buying a new cd drive is the solution

As I suspected.

You may have to give yourself enough time to give up and try the new cd/dvd drive. You won't be the first to have to try anything else first and wonder why it works for loading programs, etc. It's a common problem and one I won't write at length about.

this link offered that you may need to press and hold a key and then press another. For some tectras it says to press the Esc key and then the F1 key. For other models you press and hold F2 so it's not a one keystroke process. This will be like a lot of printers that can generate a test page or config page by pressing a certain key and then powering on. Try holding the Esc key while powering on and then press F1 or other keys as well. There's a way to do this.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
