Question

Cannot access wireless network

Jan 7, 2013 3:40AM PST

Windows XP on a Dell Dimension 5100, using a Clear Wireless Router. Icon in system tray shows message: 'Wireless connection 4 not connected - firewalled"
Remote laptop picks up WiFi connection fine, can only use desk top for internet if hard wired. Can see WiFi account, enabled, wireless card is green and on exception list etc. I'm missing something. Assistance is appreciated.

About something.

This is a common issue with an expired antivirus. There's not much to work with here but I'd thought I toss this out.

Cannot access wireless network

Thanks Bob. I gave that another round of searches and downloaded the McAfee MCPR file to clean out old files. Only one shortcut showed up. Still looking for an answer. Steve

Given the clues so far.

I can only ask you tell more. Anything may help at this point but common issues are in no order.

1. The WiFi channel is not one this PC supports.
2. The SSID is hidden.
3. It's broke.

Since I could not find the problem, I circumvented it with a Netgear USB Wireless Adapter and all is good for now. Thanks for the help, it was a learning experience.

We know that MAC Filtering is ineffective security so why use that?

Clear Wireless: The worst company in the entire world
Mar 1, 2013 7:23AM PST

Want to talk to twenty slaves who don't know anything, and whom you cannot understand? Well, you can't do better than Clear Wireless. Clear stole four hundred dollars from us. Took the money, never provided one gram of service or product. company that is only good for treating American customers like dirt, and exclusively employing terrified slaves on the other side of the world. I repeat: Clear stole four hundred dollars from us.
