Question

Cannot access files copied to external hard drive

Aug 24, 2016 7:29AM PDT

Whenever I try to copy a file/folder from my system to any external device, it shows that the file is getting copied but then I cannot access it. For example any copied media file gives me a bad descriptor error when I try to play it from external storage. I am however able to copy files from external storage to my system and access them perfectly. I am using Windows 7 64 bit OS just fyi. Can someone please help? TIA.

I'll keep it short. Eject that drive, unplug when safe then unplug the drive, wait a few seconds and plug it in.

Try again.

Problems working with files and folders in Windows can be caused by permissions issues, corrupted user accounts or even corrupted files. These issues often occur after upgrading to another version of Windows, connecting to other computers over a network or even just connecting an external hard drive into your computer.

I would suggest you to try the steps from the following link:

"Access Denied" or other errors when accessing or working with files and folders in Windows

Try the above steps and let us know the results.
