Cannot access D drive after Vista reload

by wbabish / December 11, 2009 10:44 PM PST

I had to completely reload Vista due to a drive crash. I didn't have the authentication code that came with Vista. Everything that I had, photos, music, docs, etc. were backed up on the D drive portion of the drive. Is there any way for me to access this drive. It shows 8GB are contained in it but Vista says that it is empty. I would greatly appreciate it if anyone can tell me how to recover my stuff! I am limited in my PC knowlege so please be gentle. = )

- What's an authentication code, and how did you go around the problem that you didn't have it?
- What is "it" in "it shows 8 GB". It can't be Vista, because Vista says (or shows?) it's empty. I don't see, however, see anything else in your post "it" could be.
- And HOW exactly does Vista say it's empty?
- Don't you have a backup of that stuff? Then you risk losing it, in fact. Let's hope it's not necessary.

D drive access
by wbabish / December 11, 2009 11:01 PM PST

Sorry...I did not have the registration key for the reload. When I look at "my computer" it shows 8GB is stored on drive d. When I go to restore these items through the recovery resource, Vista says that the drive is empty and there's nothing to restore.

What's the "recovery resource"? Seems like the reverse of a some "backup". What kind of backup did you do?
What, by the way is the exact full (error) message: "The drive is empty and there's nothing to restore"? Or something else?

Why not simply use My Computer or Windows Explorer to get that files from (the old?) user profile? Then you have them for 2 months again.
