Canadian Lawyers against the War want to arrest George W. Bu

by Ziks511 / March 16, 2009 1:06 PM PDT

sh for allegations of Torture or counselling or aiding and abetting Torture in Iraq and Afghanistan. According to Canadian Law, anyone believed to have been involved or to have conspired in torture is liable to arrest and either trial in Canada, or to any competent authority who will. This is effectively pursuant to the decision in 1998 in England provoked by the arrival of General Pinochet for Medical Treatment. Canada subsequently addressed the issue of accused torturers, or heads of state which practiced torture, and voted to prosecute or allow extradition (that's extradition, not extraordinary rendition). Additionally the Former President has a conviction for Driving Under the Influence which is also a bar to admission to Canada unless he can show that he has completed a legal program of rehabilitation.

The government of Canada currently is in the hands of the Conservative Party, which is a step back from the Progressive Conservative Party which is what it was before the late 1990's, seems unlikely to pursue Bush, but the Lawyers could tie the hands of the government if they can get the case to court.

Bashing Obama is verboten. Sure way to getting a thread locked.

Bush bashing is still acceptable, even preferred at SE.
