Every single person -- including my "elderly" mother -- who's been in my car (a CTS-V Coupe, which has the same GM part in the same location) has noticed that lever. One friend even jokingly asked if it was an ejector seat.

And it's not like the heat in a vehicle will overcome you in seconds. You'll have several minutes to look around the cabin, which, in a Corvette, is not that big. Smaller than my V Coupe, actually.

I also like to be able to manually pull the throttle from under the hood. I've not gotten accustomed to ABS either. It might be fine for people who grew up with it but I find it more difficult to stop on slick roads using ABS. I also don't care much for AWD when ABS mixes in. Driving through a slick turn is bad enough but my AWD and ABS systems sound and feel like all of my tires fell off and I'm sliding on the belly pan.

My latest vehicle also has some function to disable the throttle when the brakes are depressed. This interferes with how I learned to drive which means braking into a turn but accelerating slightly through it. This helps maintain control as coasting through a turn is both awkward and dangerous. With my newer car, applying the brakes kills the accelerator pedal for a short period until the brakes are fully released. This causing some tense times when turning into oncoming traffic as the car seems to stall out when I hit the gas.

Government regs and fuel mileage standards are a part of the problem, IMO. The thrust is on higher mileage and protecting the occupants when (not if) they crash. Drive-by-wire might help improve fuel mileage by relieving the engine of some of its power functions but there's also a cost if the car feels and drives differently enough that one's intuitions are negatively affected.

I especially don't care for all of the distracting technology being put into these new cars. No longer do ads tout comfort, good vision and quiet ride. Now you see maniac drivers bouncing in the seat and singing to to loud thumping music in the commercials. All I want to do when I see these ads is make sure I'm not on the road anywhere near where these folks are driving. Happy

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
