Question

Can you go SLI with two different models of graphics cards?

Nov 10, 2016 11:13AM PST

I was thinking of upgrading my graphics card from a GTX 970 to a 1070, which seemed like a good idea, since I didn't really want to or could spend $700 on a 1080. I was wondering if it would be possible to set up SLI between my 970 and 1070, or is that just a bunch of ludicrousness?

Maybe...but

I suspect the pkg will run at the speed of the slowest card.
I suspect the ram will be limited to the ram on the smallest card.

Bottom line... try it and do some testing.

There may be certain DX12 games that will allow rendering to happen on both GPUS, no matter the make and model, like Ashes of the Singularity. But for the most part you would be limited to the performance of one card.

I would sell the 970 for the 1070 or 1080 if you can afford it with the sale of the 970.
