And those who do a lot of driving
Jan 5, 2015 5:40PM PST

are reaping the benefit of the lower gas prices. Those who drive minimally to conserve resources, get the scraps. So now's the time to get out on those wintry weather highways and enjoy the view of the snow drifts. And while we're at it, we can ponder this

http://www.forbes.com/sites/beltway/2014/11/11/now-is-the-perfect-time-to-raise-gas-taxes/

Last nights news had congress thinking about it. The timing is perfect for one party but not the other. If the taxes go up, who will be blamed?

See...anyone can be a curmudgeon in the face of what looks like positive news.

Duplicate response here re: gas taxes
Jan 5, 2015 7:33PM PST

And IF Congress decides to raise Federal taxes on gasoline just as the people are seeing relief (this is the main reason people are feeling 'confident' along with the fact that Republicans are in control of Congress), they will totally deserve any backlash they get. Instead of raising Federal taxes, I suspect the STATES will be the ones raising the tax at THEIR level instead. IF that's the case, I hope Congress will pass a law (or amend the old one) that gives the States back the control over their own infrastructure using those taxes. The Feds have totally misused the funding they are currently in charge of and don't deserve to be in control of who gets what anymore.

Tax dependencies
Jan 5, 2015 9:31PM PST

This is what you get when you fund highway construction and repair with dynamic income sources. We have one side that needs a stable source of money based on gasoline usage and we combine that with a movement to preserve fuel. We conserve in two ways. One is by using more fuel efficient automobiles and the other is by carpooling and driving less. Each of these will contribute to loss of tax revenue needed to keep the highways safe for use and adequate for traffic. The advent of electric and hybrid vehicles complicates the fairness of the tax system even more. This is all the more reason to stop with the nickel and dime tax code that encourages abuse (and creativity) to avoid being taxed. As well, it just contributes to the squabbling. We need something fair and simple so that people are aware of how many hands are in their pockets.

BO's policies because the oil production is up ONLY on private and State lands.....BO has still got the bans in effect for any Federal lands and the three coasts. He gets no credit for this....

Your entire article

points to all the things the BO has done to actually keep prices higher in order to meet his agenda of green energy alternatives....including changing the auto industry standards, making each vehicle built much more expensive to buy and operate and refusing to allow exploration on Federal lands and the three coats. Where, pray tell, does your article show that he's actually done anything to bring the prices down?

I provided the link to show that the Republicans have been blaming Obama for high gas prices....NOT to show that the storyline they were telling was factual.

Did you watch O'Reilly last night?
Jan 6, 2015 12:48AM PST

David Duke was on his show and stated firmly that Scalise was 'scheduled' to speak but no one is able to state positively that he ever even showed up for it. There WAS a meeting of another group two hours EARLIER that Scalise DID speak at, however, and some people, including Scalise, might have confused the two. Scalise not only may have apologized for something that didn't happen, but Scalise also stated that he was accepting speaking engagements for 'nearly everything' at that time in order to get face and name recognition during his campaign.

So if Obama has nothing to do with lower gas prices,
Jan 6, 2015 3:28AM PST

then he must not have anything to do with higher gas prices.

The prices were low when he was sworn in
Jan 6, 2015 4:08AM PST

During the last six years, he has done everything he could to prevent exploration...in order to drive his green agenda instead......and prices kept climbing as he also shut down refineries all across the USA, making us more and more dependent upon foreign oil. Once the private and State lands were able to get rolling, oil and gas production increased, causing the price to finally begin dropping.

How can you NOT see HE caused it.....deliberately?

Of course it was his fault including Katrina.

BTW what is wrong with his green agenda?

Did you hear that Scotland is generating all of it's electricity via green. I know several other countries are as well.

Green means that it doesn't run out
Jan 6, 2015 9:24AM PST

Wave energy (you know the one that Kennedy wanted to block (never heard whether he did or not) because it might damage the view from his house looking out onto the ocean), water power (like the Niagara Falls), wind power (you know they are making smaller ones that look like big leaves and can be put on trees), solar power (look at all that desert and roofs; now if we can get people to stop stealing them).

Non-green are the things that are getting harder and harder to dig up. The things we are destroying the world with tar sands and fracking and leaks and explosions and controllable by some very nasty people.

- Collapse -
Actually, Diana, I think "green" refers to
Jan 6, 2015 5:21PM PST

the color of foliage and green energy is to be of the type that keeps the planet the color of the trees rather than the color of the dirt. Interestingly, trees are carbon based just like we are and need CO2 in sugar production. Of course there's a tipping point at which growth would be harmful so you don't want too much or too little. As for Kennedy, it was windmills he didn't want in his back yard.

I think we do need to keep the old saying in mind that getting something clean always makes something dirty. We tend to under think rather than over think sometimes. This is why we've done so many things that later turn out to be harmful. We forget that mom nature doesn't want you to dig a swimming pool and put a house on top of it. Of course we call that a basement but mom nature is going to try and fill it with water, isn't she? Happy

Our earlier ruling stands. Scalise earns three Pinocchios for suggesting that the president "got his wish" with $4-per-gallon gasoline.

gives out Pinocchios to a Republican because it doesn't agree with Scalise two years ago....even though Scalise was right. How often does the WAPO give out pinocchios to Dems or BO and then we'll have a discussion.

You claim the WAPO is a liberal rag...I showed you where you use it as a source to prove YOUR points, which means that you agree with a liberal rag.

So don't refer to something in a derogatory term and then use it to prove a point...it makes you look like a hypocrite.
