Can Win 7 Read XP Backup Files?

Jul 30, 2010 4:48AM PDT

8 year old Pavilion finally bit the dust, but everything is backed up to an external drive using XP's built-in Backup utility. When I get my new PC with Win 7, will it be able to read the .bkf backup files from my external drive, and put them in the same relative location within the "Documents" folder (formerly My Documents)? If so, is that done through a built-in Win 7 backup utility, or can Win 7 "open" the .bkf files to expose their contents for me to manually transfer the files?

I've not used it but maybe it'll work for you....

Hope this helps.

Thanks Grif! When my new PC arrives I'll be sure to install this MS utility. Hopefully it will be a seamless transition to open and transfer the contents of my .bkf files.
