Can we install windows XP on a 98?

we have a 8560c HP computer
it was given to us by a friend
and my cousin wants to use it
but we need both wireless internet on it
and probably xp
can we use a xp software cd to install xp on it?
there is nothing on it
so nothing will get lost over os switch
can we?

an HP 7850. I am running Windows XP. It's a little slow, but it works just fine. I don't know how old your computer is, but you may need to add memory.

You will need at least 500 MB of ram to run windows xp reasonably well. I don't think you pc's chipset will allow for more than 256 MB.
Althrough this falls into the specs microsoft says is needed to run xp, they are only listing the minimum specs to run the operating system and not allowing for other software. Your better bet would be to install windows 2000, it has almost the same functionality and consumes less resources.
