Resolved Question

Can TV LN40C540 and BluRay HT-D5100 turn on together?

Jul 27, 2011 3:46PM PDT

Some people complain that their Samsung TV is turned on automatically when they turn on their Samsung Blu-Ray player because of Anynet+. I have the opposite problem. I want that to happen but for some reason it's not happening. It seems that Anynet+ is turned off by default in my TV LN40C540. What does work is, I can first turn on the TV and then go to Tools and Anynet+ and explicitly turn it on there and then the Blu-Ray player HT-D5100 turns on. However, I have to do that every time I turn on the TV so it's a hassle. Anyone know how to change the default setting? I went through all the menus and the manuals but to no avail.

Yup, the HDMI goes from the Blu-Ray to the TV. I also have an optical audio cable from the TV to the Blu-Ray. Anynet+ does work for me (I suppose it wouldn't without the HDMI) but it is off by default (when I turn on either the TV or the Blu-Ray).

Hi HDTech,

The picture mode stays after turning it off and then on again so I suppose it's not the shop mode (thanks for helping though). I've played with it a bit more and have some more information that can be of help:

1. If the TV is already on and then I turn on the Blu-Ray player they find each other automatically after a few seconds and the sound then goes through the Blu-Ray (as desired). So in this case Anynet+ kicks in as expected.
2. The TV does go on automatically after turning on the Blu-Ray player if the player is in the Disk mode. If there's a CD in the player the TV shows the CD contents while the player is playing the CD. if there is no disk inside the Blu-Ray the TV shows the My Contents menu of the Blu-Ray player. So in this case I do get the desired simultaneous turning on of both devices.
3. The problem is there doesn't seem to be a way to get the TV to go on automatically and then show TV program, which is what I want. When I watch TV with audio through the Blu-Ray I set the Blu-Ray player's input to "Digital In". However, if I turn on the player in this mode the TV does not go on. So in summary I can get the TV to go on automatically with the player only when playing a disk (Disk mode) but not when the intent is to watch TV (Digital In mode).

Hi HDTech,

So to summarize you're saying that Anynet+ wouldn't work with a cable or satellite box (which I don't have) or a co-ax input direct from the wall (which I do have, going to the TV directly). In other words, there is no way for me to power up the Blu-Ray and the TV with a single button click to watch TV program. Is there a set-up that would enable that? Perhaps an Anynet+ compatible cable box? PVR?

Thanks!
