can't write data to cd-r

by kodorudolph / July 9, 2009 1:16 AM PDT

I am am Mac person (insert insult here) trying to help my wife burn data cd's on her Toshiba laptop. Unfortunately we can not.

Windows XP media edition 2004
Toshiba Satellite laptop

Here are our problems and the clues leading up to them:

I insert a blank cd-r
No "dialogue box" appears (per Windows XP web help search)
I see the cd-r in 'my computer' as "drive :D"
I double-click the cd-r and it says ":D is not accessable - incorrect function"

Then, I go to the files that I want to write to the cd-r.
I right-click on the file
I see a menu that includes "send to"
A friend said I should see the cd-r (or Drive :D) in the menu but I do not.

All I see under the "send to" menu is:
- compressed zipped folder
- desktop
- mail recipient
- my documents
- record now
- skype

We are able to burn audio CD's in iTunes, so we assume we have a cd- burner in the laptop.

Thanks for any help.

I see you have RECORD NOW
by R. Proffitt Forum moderator / July 9, 2009 1:22 AM PDT

Yes there is now easy way to get this done. Also it's never been standardized in Windows. Let's cut through all this and just plow ahead.

Find Record Now in your Start, Programs Menu and LEARN HOW TO USE IT. Read the manual, read online, do the homework.

Or forget it and use what I use. Titles only, no tutorial or where to find them.

These 3 do just about anything I need to do with CDR/W and DVDR/W media.

more info
by kodorudolph / July 9, 2009 1:22 AM PDT

Also, below are the first 3 steps that come up when I searched for "write cd" under the "Help and Support" menu on the Toshiba.

Unfortunately, there is no "File and Folder Tasks" that we can find under step 3.

1.Insert a blank, writable CD into the CD recorder.
2.Open My Computer.
3.Click the files or folders you want to copy to the CD. To select more than one file, hold down the CTRL key while you click the files you want. Then, under File and Folder Tasks, click Copy this file, Copy this folder, or Copy the selected items.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
