Can't view CNET's full site on iPhone

Jul 17, 2010 10:17AM PDT

On my iPhone 3Gs, when I type in www.CNET.com in the Safari browser, I was always automatically transferred to the iPhone.cnet mobile site, but was always able to go to the bottom and click "VIEW FULL CNET SITE", upon which I would be taken to the full HTML site.

However, now I am unable to get to the full site. The link at the bottom of the mobile's site now just re-directs me back to the top of the mobile site.

Though I think the mobile site is OK, I really enjoy the full HTML experience on the iphone.

Has CNET changed anything on their mobile site that prevents a user from gaining access to the full HTML version?

Hi,

Thanks for letting us know about this. We hope to have it fixed shortly.

Still no full site!

The mobile site really bites-different stories, no comments, layout. All terrible.
How long before this bug is finally fixed?

No full site in sight

Marc, this bug has been preventing access to full site for at least a month!
Any word on if there will be a fix? The mobile site is so lame that I've stopped bothering to use CNET at all.

Fix is ready

Hi, a fix is ready and should be deployed soon. Thanks for your patience! I know how frustrating something like this can be.

Could you try it now?

And if it's still not working, what OS are you running? Thanks.

Still no full site!

Marc, everything is still pretty much the same. The link "VIEW FULL CNET SITE" still just returns you back to the CNET Mobile site "iphone.cnet.com/site?sid=cnet_ip".

My iPhone is a 16GB 3gs running ios 4.0.1

I hope this helps.
Thanks
James

Here's what worked for me
Aug 5, 2010 9:48AM PDT

I got the correct redirect beginning yesterday. Unfortunately it involves clearing your cookies. I don't know of a way to selectively delete iPhone's Safari cookies so you have to wipe them all out. Clear your browser cache also.

Then go to Safari, go to cnet.com.

You'll be redirected to iphone.cnet.com. This time, when you click the "VIEW FULL CNET SITE" link, your request should stick.

It's working for a few of us here.

Let me know if that works. If not, we'll investigate further with the version 4.0.1 OS.

Cnet TV

On a similar note, is there a compatibility issue with Cnet TV and the iPad? If I follow a link to a Cnet video, it very seldom takes me to the correct episode. This happens both with RSS feeds and emails from Cnet.

Where do the links go?

Are the videos on CNET TV or on another CNET page, like a product page? We do have an HTML 5 version of CNET TV. If you have some example links, I can check with some people and see what's up.

One example is a link in the 'Cnet Today" email I got on Tuesday - 'New Blackberry on the horizon'. When I follow the link, it takes me to Cnet TV but none of the snippets or episodes to the right of the video player is related to the new Blackberry.

Does it start with the correct video?

No

When I click on that link on iPad it takes me to Brian Cooley's August 6 intro and then a story on a BMW, then one on jailbreaking.

Ok

Sounds like the specifics for the Loaded video (like i.d.) aren't being passed in, and you're just getting the video that plays on CNET TV when nothing is specified. If I just type in "cnettv.com" I also see Brian Cooley's August intro.

Continuing to research...

Have you tried to clear the cookie and cache?
