You say, "I don't seem to be able to open zip files. All I get is a bunch of individual GIF's"

Are the GIF files actual GIF images? If so, perhaps that's all there is to be unzipped.

Where from? What zip files are you trying to unzip? What error messages are you getting?

How are you trying to unzip these files? Are you using Winzip?

any *.ZIP file and by default WinXP will unzip that file into 1 or several small files and display them in the new Windows Explorer.

Those *.GIF files have been unziped already and ready to be viewed by double-click on it.

XP's built in zip utility can be confusing to use.

Suggest you get an evaluation copy of WinZip and use it. Much clearer and easier to use.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
