Can?t unmount volume

by Jimperrin / September 29, 2009 1:25 AM PDT

I?m using OS 10.6.1 on a Mac Pro, and all of a sudden I have a volume that refuses to unmount. What?s Keeping Me lists a number of responsible files.

One is safety copy of my keychain that I?ve kept on this volume for years. The Process Name is ?firefox-bin? and the process is 4853. All the rest are Spotlight files, with ?mds? as the Process and Process ID 11361. (The process id often seems to change different times I use What?s Keeping Me.) And on several occasions one of the the responsible processes was ?fseventsd? with process id 10761.

I?ve used Spotless to delete the entire Spotlight Index Directory and even temporarily disabled Spotlight indexing, but the volume still won?t unmount and What?s Keeping Me still lists Spotlight files as the major culprits. (Quitting and even force quitting the processes within WKM doesn?t seem to make any difference.)

Maybe the problem is caused by Snow Leopard since I never had it before, but I don?t know. And I don?t like to muck around with processes like ?mds? that I don?t understand!

Hope someone can help!

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
