Question

Can't turn off from start menu and ctrl+alt+del on Win 7

by boibatt / June 4, 2012 5:11 AM PDT

Hi everyone,

First of all, I'd like to start by saying that I'm not a big computer guy, therefore I'll try to use the correct terms to describe my problems.
Also, I'd like to apologize for my English, as it is not my native language.

A few months ago, I downloaded and used a program called Softest Bar Edition by ExamSoft.
This programs is used to sit for the Bar Exam using your computer, therefore it launches its own word processor and blocks absolutely everything else until you have saved and exited the program.

Before using this program, everything was fine. However, since I used it, I can't shut down my computer from the start menu, I can only log off and THEN turn it off.

Moreover, whenever I hit ctrl+alt+del, the ONLY option available is to "Swith User". I can't even launch Task Manager...

Oh and the little picture I put up on my User Account has been changed to the default flower. Yeah, I was mad.

How can I change it back to the way it was before? I read somewhere that I might be able to do so via secpol.msc but it's not available on Windows 7 Home Edition (apparently)...

First off, have you uninstalled or tried to uninstall the Soft test software? That would be the first thing to attempt. IF it uninstalls, then try to do a simple back restore to an earlier time and see how that goes. It would be
nice to know if you have tried these simple tasks and what the result is/was. Keep us posted.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
