Can't share files between 2 xp machines.

Nov 25, 2004 3:44PM PST

I am having a difficult time trying to share files between my two XP Home machines connected by a wireless router. I have shared a folder on each computer. Using my desktop computer, I can access the shared folder on my notebook. However, from my notebook computer, I can't access the shared folder from my desktop. I can map the network connection, but when I try to click on it, I get an "access is denied" message. This doesn't make any sense to me.

I believe all relevant settings are the same for both computers. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Then check out the different settings. For details, read the following MSKB article:

Thanks for responding, but that article doesn't seem to contain any info that can help. Believe me, I've read every article related to file sharing that I could find and nothing addresses my problem.

I think I have a pretty good understanding of how file sharing works; that's why I'm so perplexed by this problem. It would be a lot easier if I could turn off Simple File Sharing; unfortunately I don't think that is possible in xp home.

I'm at my wit's end here; does anyone have any suggestions.

Never mind; I just realized that SP2 hadn't yet been installed on one of the computers. I installed it and now it works. I'm still not sure what setting was causing the problem, though.
