Can't set IE as default browser

Oct 3, 2005 9:35AM PDT

I installed Netscape 8 as a browser to use, but there were somethings about it that I did not like and I am trying to get things back when it is just IE. But when I go into tools, Internet Options then programs in Internet Explorer. The check box for "Internet Explorer should check to see if it is the default browser" is grayed out. What can I do to fix this?

This is on Windows XP Professional.

There are several ways of solving this problem, but try the following two and see if you can regain control over your internet settings.

* Open Internet Explorer and go tools->internet options->advanced and click on the button titled "restore defaults." I believe that will make IE your default browser again.

* Since you plan on sticking with Internet Explorer, why not just uninstall Netscape and restart? That should force it to release it's hold on your browser preference, allowing you to make IE default again.

Hope this helps,
John

I tried reset function in the advanced tab. I had uninstalled Netscape. I ended up using the Set Program Access and Defaults in the Add/Remove Programs Control Panel.
