Can't Select Large Fonts for Menus and Toolbars

Dec 21, 2009 1:13AM PST

We just got our new HP with Windows 7. I have had no luck in trying to increase the size of the fonts on the menu panel and Windows, email and Explorer toolbars so we can see without putting our reading glasses right up to the screen. I had no problems enlarging these items on my old Dell with XP. Am I missing something? Can someone help us?

You might want to change the resolution...
Dec 21, 2009 2:50AM PST

You can adjust the OS resolution through the Control Panel or by right-clicking the desktop. Reducing the resolution will increase the size of text, images, etc. accordingly, though it will also decrease the amount of screen real estate (the amount of content viewable on one screen). But if you cannot read what's on the screen now, the extra content serves little purpose.

Hope this helps,
John

Large Fonts
Dec 22, 2009 11:56PM PST

The computer tech tried increasing the resolution when he set up the machine, it nullified the advantages of a larger screen. It's not the size of information on the screen that's the problem; it's the "tiny typeface" on the "skinny" toolbars and drop-down menus. But if can't be fixed, we'll have to let it be.

It can be adjusted...
Dec 23, 2009 1:33AM PST

Resolution change is the most frequently preferred solution, but you can adjust the title bar font size itself. To do so, look for the 'Classic Appearance Properties' option in the Personalization section of the Control Panel. On the Appearance Settings window, you should find an Advanced button. Click that, then adjust the Advanced Appearance settings for the desired items (specifically font size of the Title Bar in your case).

Hope this helps,
John
