What's your OS (Linux, Mac OS X, Windows 98, Windows 7)?
What burning program are you using?
Can you burn other data, like a folder of word processing documents?

When I burn data on my XP machine using Nero (the OEM version 6), it has a validate option. That checks the disk after burning to see if it contains exactly what was written to it during the burning process. And it ends with something like "Validation had 0 errors." And, indeed, the data is on the disk after that.

vista is the OS on my laptop; using windows media, whatever to burn (it activates automatically when i insert a CD. i am able to make music CD's using Itunes without problems, but doing the photos is a continual headache: i.e. the laptop might show 50 pictures on a CD that i burned, and presumably finalized for use on other computers, but then that CD will be blank in another computer

I didn't know you could use Window Media Player to burn pics. But obviously you did.

Anyway, I'd start with trying another burning program like CDBURNERXP from www.cdburnerxp.se
It's free so worth the try.
