Can't see other computers nor share files....what gives?

Oct 8, 2004 5:56AM PDT

Well now that the wireless is all up and good, I try to network the computer just using Win Xp (home) little home network utility and that worked fine when the network was wired, but now its not so hot...

I can't see anyone but myself and another computer can see me but not access files and last the other can't see anyone...

Linksys wanted me to run some program to auto setup but I work have to direct connect all the computers first (ethernet to the router) but this is crazy because of the distance...what should I do, try the Win Xp home network utility again?

Network Config:
Desktop 1 connect to Linksys wireless router.
Desktop 2 connected via 802.11g
Notebook 1 connected via 802.11g

Make sure that all the needed networking services are avaliable on all computers. See blackviper.com or theeldergeek.com. Also, make sure firewalls are properly set.

Hi

I have a very similar setup using a Linksys G router to communicate with two desktops and a laptop. The only difference from your setup is that the router is not close enough to the computer to be connected by the cable and everything is wireless with another 802.11g card in the second desktop.
I assume that your desktop #1 can connect to the internet. Can the laptop? or are you just setting up and internal network without an internet connection? When you say that the wireless desktop and laptop are connected to the router, do you mean that there is a signal going between them and the router?
In my setup my downstairs desktop can view files and use the color printer on my wife's upstairs computer. My wife's computer can view files on the downstairs computer and use the laser printer connected to it. The laptop can view files on both machines and use either printer and everybody has an internet connection.
If you want to pursue this further just give a little more info and I would be happy to discuss this further as we have the same cards and same router.

Just bought a LinkSys Wireless G Broadband Router and am connecting another computer (wired) and a laptop (wireless adapter). All connect fine to the internet but cannot see eachother on the network at all.

I am just converting from a wired D-Link router which worked without a problem. I am getting extremely frustrated here and if you could give me a hand with my settings I would sure appreciate it.

Thanks

I had a similar problem tonight. My XP machine would not see my other shares. I am running the zone alarm firewall. On my XP machine I told zone alarm that the ip address from my router and the machine my XP box was trying to access are trusted.

I then attemped a network drive mapping and all the shares showed up.
