Is any account listed?

You can log into any administrative account, then browse to C:\Users\<username> to access the respective user's files. If you are denied access, you can right-click the folder, select Proprieties, select the Security tab, and take ownership of the files to gain access.

However, you may want to explain why you're using Safe Mode to 'recover' the files in the first place, as it may explain your difficulties accessing them now.

Let us know.

It's my daughters computer at college so I cant see what she's doing exactly but she says it goes straight to her desktop in safe mode doesnt give her a choice. Sounds weird to me too. In any event, she cant get to desktop in normal mode. Getting the files will be huge as she has school notes to retrieve but any ideas what's wrong with the computer>? for the last week it has been asking her to do a chkdsk then working properly. This time it didn't.

thanks!
